1. Create Your Account
If you have not ordered from us before, create an account first. The exemption is attached to that account, so it needs to exist before we can flag it.
No password is needed. Sign in with a code we email you. Passwords from our old site are not needed.
2. Send Us Your Certificate
Email taxexempt@upstartautoparts.com with a copy of your certificate attached. We accept:
- A resale certificate
- A tax exempt certificate
Please include in the email:
- The email address on your store account, so we flag the right one
- Your business or organization name as it appears on the certificate
- The state the certificate is issued for
A clear photo or a PDF is fine, as long as the whole document is readable and the certificate has not expired.
3. Wait for Our Reply
Our customer service team checks the certificate and replies by email. Once your account is flagged as tax exempt, you can place your order with no sales tax.
Please do this before you place your order. We cannot remove sales tax from an order that has already been placed, and an order put through before your account is flagged will be charged tax.
4. Ordering From Then On
Sign in to your account before you check out, with a code we email you. The exemption follows the account, not the browser, so an order placed while signed out is charged tax like any other.
5. Keeping It Current
If your certificate expires, or your business name, address or exemption status changes, email us the new certificate and we will update your account.
