What causes a serpentine belt to squeal?
A squealing belt is usually caused by a loss of tension. Over time, the internal spring in your automatic belt tensioner weakens, allowing the belt to slip against the pulleys. It can also be caused by a glazed (hardened) belt, or a failing bearing in an idler pulley. We recommend replacing the tensioner whenever you replace the belt.
